The Silk Road – Peter 7

15th July 2015:

This is the first time in 7 days that my IPad will link with the weak Wifi we find in the Stans. Since independent each of the stab countries have been on a race to rebuild their cities and culture building very modern towns and cities. As we have travelled south the buildings have become more spectacular. Oil dollars are making this all possible

Unfortunately for us we are traveling in the hot off season with daytime temperatures reaching 44 degrees. This means there are few tourists about and even the locals spend most the day at home where it is cooler. This also means there are fewer opportunities to meet the locals or fellow travellers. The historic sites are deserted.
We are now getting up earlier and earlier to begin our travels this morning starting out at 4.30am so that we can travel in the cooler part of the day. We have now reached Asgobat some 18,000 Kms from the Port of Klang in Malaysia where we started this odyssey. Hopefully the attached pictures get through

Thanks Barb and Steve, currently in Iran one of the most welcoming countries we have visited. Tomorrow we go to Tabriz to visit the largest bazaar in the Middle East. 7 square kilometres luckily we have no women with us otherwise we would never get out. Xx see you soon Peter

Enjoying your reports immensely. Loved the photo of the three wise men. Not sure that you come into that category.
Looking forward to seeing Fiona in a couple of weeks time.
Hope all goes well in the final laps. Wyn
